Scholarships & Bursaries
The following is a description of the scholarships and bursaries available at St Paul’s Collegiate School:
The closing date for all scholarship applications is the conclusion of Term Two in any given academic year (i.e. 15th July 2011 for 2012). The Parents Association Scholarship is not awarded through application rather it is awarded at Prizegiving to an existing student based on a given criteria.
Distance boarding scholarships are awarded by the MOE to families who meet the criteria and families apply for these directly with the MOE either prior to the student arriving at St Paul's or during their time here.
Whesby Scholarships can only be applied for by Sons/Daughters of Clergy and must be endorsed by the Bishop
YEAR 9 DIAGNOSTIC AND SCHOLARSHIP EXAMINATIONS
For Prospective Year 9 Male Students Enrolling at St Paul's
All Year 9 students intending to attend St Paul’s Collegiate School are required to sit the Diagnostic and Scholarship examinations on a Saturday in June of each year. The exams typically commence at 1.00pm and finish at 4.30pm in the afternoon. Candidates sit a Mathematics, Reasoning and English examination, which are annually attempted by approximately 12,000 students who are applying for placement in Integrated and Independent Schools in Australasia.
As parents, you will receive a summary of your son’s performance, which will also give you information on the range of marks and the median for the St Paul’s candidates. The results typically give parents a good insight into where your son sits academically in relationship to his peers. As a School we will use your son’s results in the examinations, along with the information we receive from his present school reports and from his current teachers, to assist us in his class placement.
In addition, we use the Diagnostic examination to award two scholarships, (i.e. covering up to 50% of a student’s tuition fees) for Year 9 students who fulfill the School’s Special Character requirements.
These scholarships are renewed annually subject to a student’s satisfactory progress at school.
We recognise that many of our new boys won’t have sat three hours of consecutive tests in the past and consequently will be a little nervous. Please advise them, if this is the case, that they will not be unique in this situation and the results of the examination are largely being used for diagnostic purposes.
Parents should drop their sons off at St Paul’s at 12.45pm and collect them at 4.30pm. Boys are not required to bring anything to the examination. We will provide them with the pen and paper needed to complete the tests.
Assessments of Year 9 for the 2012 intake are now complete.
Please contact the Enrolments Office – telephone (07) 957 8889 or email: info@stpauls.school.nz for further information or to obtain an entry form for the Diagnostic / Scholarships Examinations and/or a prospectus, giving your name, address and telephone number.
