TIHOI VENTURE SCHOOL –2010/01 - February 26th
57 eager boys have embarked on their Tihoi journey. After hot and sunny house tramps the boys have now completed three rotations on the Outdoor Programme. The rock climbers have learnt to belay and climb on the Tihoi wall and The Wave. Students have enjoyed having a go on a range of elements on the high ropes course as they honed their belay skills. The kayakers have gained confidence in their white water kayaks – learning to eddie turn and to paddle their boat in a straight line – both vital skills for the Mohaka river in term two. Some excellent bivouacs have been built during the survival programme based out of the YMCA huts in the Pureora Forest Park. Most groups have gotten fires going and cooked rabbit in a range of ways on the open fire was enjoyed as hunger pangs started. House life is bustling along with the 'school camp' feeling over and the challenges of living and working with one another well and truly with us. A well deserved break is needed by all to recharge their batteries for the second half of term one.
