Teacher - Visual Art

Located in St Paul's Collegiate School Hamilton

Full-time, Fixed-Term (Parental Leave)

St Paul’s Collegiate School is one of New Zealand’s premier independent day and boarding schools for Year 9-13 boys and Year 11-13 girls. With a growing roll of currently 830 students, our school offers a learning environment that fosters academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, character education, and traditional values.

We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, creative, and passionate Visual Arts teacher to join our successful and well-resourced Art Department, which will be an initial a fixed-term (parental leave cover) position, beginning Term 3, 2024.

We seek applicants who are:

  • comfortable working both independently and as a team;

  • have a passion for supporting students from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities;

  • are looking for opportunities to develop and grow their practice; learning from and working alongside high-performing Visual Arts staff;

  • place aakonga at the centre of their pedagogy and are committed to, and hold understanding of, mana oorite moo te maatauranga maaori;

  • seek excellence in their practice.

This position will see the successful applicant teaching: Level 2 and 3 Art Design (including Scholarship), Level 2 Photography, Level 1 Photo/Design, and Year 9 and 10 Visual Arts. These courses are well-equipped with clear and well-structured courses and teaching and learning resources to follow and implement.

Whilst this is a fixed-term role, due to the school and department continuing to see roll growth as the popularity of the subject increases, as well as new Leadership roles and responsibilities within the wider school having been obtained by current staff, it is anticipated that there will likely be scope for the successful candidate to join us in a permanent capacity from 2025.

Our Art Department is located in a new, subject-specific block that includes two large classrooms, a photography studio, and office space. Staff enjoy benefits including daily cooked lunches, generous leave provisions, and a supportive and collegial environment. A competitive remuneration package is on offer, including teacher salary scale plus a St Paul’s Allowance of $4,715 per annum. There is also an annual bonus round, rewarding staff involvement in our co-curricular programme and academic scholarship.

At St Paul’s our vision is turning possibilities into realities, and we are on a mission to prepare our students for life in the global environment. Alongside other key priorities, we want to be considered as New Zealand’s premier Boarding school, reflecting outstanding facilities, expert pastoral care, and diverse boarder engagement activities. We want staff who will commit to our vision and mission and who will work with us in achieving our strategic goals.
