Part Time (0.5 FTE) - Permanent
St Paul’s Collegiate School is one of New Zealand’s premier independent day and boarding schools for Year 9-13 boys and Year 11-13 girls. With a growing roll of currently 870 students, our school offers a learning environment that fosters academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, character education, and traditional values.
We are excited to present the opportunity for a dynamic, creative, and passionate Visual Arts teacher to join our successful, well-resourced, and growing Art Department in a new permanent position, beginning Term 1, 2025. As the third member of our Visual Arts department, the right candidate will be excellent with classroom routines, artist model knowledge, use and understanding of the Adobe Suite, and will hold sound ability to break down both practical and digital art techniques to support a range of abilities.
We seek applicants who are:
- comfortable working both independently and as a team;
- have a passion for supporting students from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities;
- are looking for opportunities to develop and grow their practice; learning from and working alongside high-performing Visual Arts staff;
- place aakonga at the centre of their pedagogy and are committed to, and hold understanding of, mana oori moo te matauranga maori;
- seek excellence in their practice.
This position will see the successful applicant teaching a minimum of one senior class, either Visual Arts (Painting/Printmaking), Photography, and/or Art Design, alongside Year 9 and 10 Visual Arts classes, which currently focus on practical artmaking methods in Painting, Printmaking and Sculpture. Candidates should state subject strengths and experience teaching to the senior level.
With this position being a part-time role, there is genuine scope for the appropriate candidate to have their hours extended over and above 0.5 FTE in 2025 and beyond. The Visual Arts department is in a healthy space for classes to expand and relief work is available. The right candidate will be committed, ambitious, and passionate about promoting the Visual Arts alongside the wider team.
Our Art Department is located in a new, subject-specific block that includes two large classrooms, a photography studio, and office space. Staff enjoy benefits including daily cooked lunches, generous leave provisions, and a supportive and collegial environment. A competitive remuneration package is on offer, including teacher salary scale (pro rata top rate of $103,086.00) plus a St Paul’s Allowance of $5,022.00 per annum (pro-rata) and one-off bonuses of up to $6,500.00 for co-curricular and NZQA academic scholarship teaching contributions.
At St Paul’s our vision is turning possibilities into realities, and we are on a mission to prepare our students for life in the global environment. Alongside other key priorities, we want to be considered as New Zealand’s premier Boarding school, reflecting outstanding facilities, expert pastoral care, and diverse boarder engagement activities. We want staff who will commit to our vision and mission and who will work with us in achieving our strategic goals.
