▪ Assistant Chaplain

Located in St Paul's Collegiate School Hamilton

St Paul’s is one of New Zealand’s leading independent Anglican day and boarding schools. With a roll of 880 students and growing, we’re entering an exciting new chapter. From 2026, we’ll welcome our first cohort of Year 9 girls – and by 2027, we’ll offer a fully co-educational experience from Year 9 to Year 13.

As part of this growth, we’re seeking an Assistant Chaplain to join our team in a part-time (0.5 FTE) capacity, with the option to increase to full-time depending on subject teaching expertise. This is a unique opportunity to support the spiritual life of the school and work alongside our Chaplain and fellow Assistant Chaplain in a caring, Christ-centred environment.

The Assistant Chaplain will help lead chapel services, teach Religious Education classes, help coordinate and participate in our service, mission, and outreach programmes, and provide pastoral care to both students and staff. The successful candidate will also be actively involved in the life of the school, including co-curricular activities, and will play a key role in nurturing a culture that is inclusive, faith-filled, and grounded in our Anglican character.

In addition, the role involves helping to plan and resource the school’s youth ministry each week and facilitating programmes that support students in exploring their Christian faith. As part of the wider ministry team, the Assistant Chaplain will participate in regular team reflection, contribute to shared leadership in faith development, and engage in ongoing youth ministry training and personal spiritual formation. They will also act as a visible ambassador for our young people, maintaining strong engagement across the school and wider community. A respectful and inclusive approach to diversity of belief and lifestyle is essential.

To be considered for this role, applicants must hold New Zealand Teacher Registration. We are looking for someone who brings warmth, initiative, and a genuine passion for working with young people. Experience in education, youth ministry, or pastoral care settings is an advantage, as are relevant theological qualifications.

At St Paul’s, our vision is Cultivating Educated Contributors, and our mission is Inspiring Minds, Building Character, Shaping Futures. Alongside academic excellence, we are committed to being New Zealand’s premier boarding school – offering outstanding facilities, expert pastoral care, and diverse opportunities for student engagement. We are seeking staff who will actively support our vision, mission, and strategic goals.

Join us as we walk alongside young people in faith, learning, and life.
