St Paul’s Collegiate School is one of New Zealand’s leading independent Anglican day and boarding schools. With a roll of 880 students and growing, we are entering an exciting new chapter. From 2026, we’ll welcome our first cohort of Year 9 girls, and by 2027, we’ll offer a fully co-educational experience from Year 9 to Year 13.
At St Paul’s, our vision is Cultivating Educated Contributors, and our mission is Inspiring Minds, Building Character, Shaping Futures. Alongside academic excellence, we are committed to being New Zealand’s premier boarding school, offering outstanding facilities, expert pastoral care, and diverse opportunities for our students.
We are seeking a highly motivated and strategic leader to join our Senior Leadership Team. Reporting directly to the Headmaster, this role carries responsibility for the leadership and oversight of school operations, Tihoi Venture School and boarding across St Paul’s. This vacancy has arisen following the appointment of our current Associate Headmaster – School Operations to a Headmaster role in the Hawke’s Bay.
This position requires someone who can balance senior leadership with the realities of day-to-day operational management. The Associate Headmaster is the line manager for all Boarding Housemasters and the Head of Boarding Operations, is actively involved in the enrolment of prospective students, and takes a lead role in discipline and the management of student behaviour. Responsibilities also include management of the daily, term, and annual calendars, coordination of assemblies, and the leadership and oversight of all major school events.
We are looking for a committed, detail-focused leader with a proven record of senior leadership in a New Zealand secondary school setting. A deep understanding and experience of student discipline, pastoral care, and boarding is essential. A commitment to teaching excellence is expected, with the role carrying a small teaching load alongside additional relief classes as required. The successful candidate will also be expected to embrace the co-curricular life of the school, contributing to both summer and winter activities, and will bring the energy and drive needed to meet the significant time demands of a senior leadership role.
A competitive remuneration package is on offer, with relocation support available for candidates moving to Hamilton. With responsibility for our four boarding houses (accommodating around 300 students), the appointee and their family will be welcomed into our school’s residential community. A spacious family home, located on the school boundary, together with utilities, is included as part of the overall remuneration package.
This is a rare opportunity to step into a senior role of genuine influence, helping to shape both the present and the future direction of the school.
