Outdoor Instructor

Located in Tihoi Venture School

St Paul’s Collegiate School is an independent Anglican secondary school based in Hamilton. Tihoi Venture School is our Year 10 residential outdoor campus, located on the western side of Lake Taupo. Students from our main campus visit Tihoi for approximately two terms, immersed in a unique program that combines academic study, outdoor pursuits, and community living.

While at Tihoi, students complete several tramps, a survival exercise, two solo exercises, flat and moving water kayaking, canoeing, sailing, rock climbing, high and low ropes course activities, caving, alpine, and an expedition.

We are looking for a permanent, full-time Outdoor Instructor to join our team. As an Outdoor Instructor, you will work with the students on their outdoor pursuits as well as provide supervision and pastoral care. A depth of experience in Outdoor Education or a similar field and a NZOIA Level 1 (or higher) in two or more of the disciplines mentioned above is desirable.

Tihoi has been in operation for over 40 years and is a well-established centre with passionate staff and purpose-built facilities. All staff live onsite (with their families) in provided accommodation and make a full commitment to the outdoor activities and pastoral care of the students.

At St Paul’s, our vision is cultivating educated contributors, and our mission is to inspire minds, build character, and shape futures. We are excited to be welcoming junior girls at St Paul’s from 2026, and from 2027, our Tihoi experience will move to three intakes, allowing our first intake of Year 10 girls.

We are looking for an instructor who will embrace this mission and help grow young people into confident, capable contributors. As an Outdoor Instructor, you will be welcomed into our close-knit onsite community and enjoy the benefits of living and working in such a picturesque environment. Included in your remuneration are a competitive salary, accommodation, and utilities such as power, Wi-Fi, and heating.

All staff live onsite in provided accommodation (with a range of accommodation options to suit partners/family, too) and are fully engaged in the academic, outdoor, and pastoral care aspects of the program.
