Grease – Cast Q&A – Patty

1 May 2019

Name: Kaylee Morrison
Year: 11
House: Harington

Which character do you play?
Patty Simcox.

In a sentence or two, sum up who your character is in the context of the story:
Patty is the head cheerleader who is very much a goody two shoes. She’s very upbeat and talks to anyone and everyone, even when she’s not wanted.

What do you like most about playing this character?
I love that she is a cheerleader, as she has that dance aspect to her – I love to dance and have been doing so since I was five. Her bubbly personality makes her so much fun to play as well!

Have there been any challenges taking on this role?
Not as of yet, but I’m really glad I have a dancing background as that has really helped me.

Grease is best known for its catchy musical tunes, do you have a favourite song?
I’ve grown up watching Grease and listening to the soundtrack, so it’s really hard to pick a favourite song, but I do love We go together and Greased lightning.

If you were a high school student in the 1950s, which Grease character would you most relate to?
Honestly I probably relate to Patty most as she is so busy doing so many different things and I love to keep myself busy with sport, cultural and academic activities.

Is this your first stage show/musical or have you performed before?
I was involved in Southwell School’s production of Annie in 2015.

Who do you look up to (as an actor/singer/performer)?
I really look up to Robin Williams, I just love how diverse he is as an actor.

Do you have plans to continue with any performing once you leave school?
I would love to keep doing stage shows and musicals once I leave school, the buzz I get from them is like nothing else.

Is there anything additional you would like to share about your experience so far being involved in this year’s school production?
As a new student, doing the production has been a great opportunity to get to know new people.

GREASE hits the stage at Southwell School Performing Arts Centre June 30 – July 4.
