Legally Blonde The Musical Cast Q&A – Elle

1 April 2018

Name: Macy Coffin
Year: 12
House: Harington/Hall

Which character do you play?
I play Delta Nu President, Elle Woods.

In a sentence or two, sum up who your character is in the context of the story:
My character is a ditzy, all-American girl who is president of her sorority Delta Nu. She enrols at Harvard Law School in order to win back her ex-boyfriend Warner. Who discovers in the show what she can do when she defies expectations and stays true to herself.

What do you like most about playing this character?
What I like most about playing this character is the fun nature of her personality. It is a high-energy character and it really allows me to express my love of singing and acting.

Have there been any challenges taking on this role?
Some challenges while taking on this role have been making sure to deliver the character in a way that fulfils its high-energy demand and time management with other extra-curriculars in the St Paul’s community.

Without giving away too much, what are you most excited for the audience to see?
I’m really looking forward to the audience seeing the fun that the cast has while performing this show. Everyone wants this show to be the best show possible and the dedication that the cast has towards rehearsals, shows how energetic the shows will be!

Is this your first stage show/musical or have you performed before?
Legally Blonde will be my fifth musical/stage show. I have previously been in Jekyll and Hyde with St Paul’s, and Fiddler on the Roof, Me and My Girl and my first show Annie get your gun!, when I attended Southwell.

If you could star in any other musical, what would it be?
I would want to star in Heathers the Musical as Veronica Sawyer.

Who do you look up to (as an actor/singer/performer)?
I look up to performers such as Sutton Foster, who has been in shows such as Anything Goes, Shrek the Musical and Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Laura Osnes who has been in shows such as Cinderella, Bonnie and Clyde and Grease.

Do you have plans to continue with performing once you leave school?
I plan to continue with singing.

Is there anything additional you would like to share about your experience so far being involved in this year’s school production?
To parents, I recommend coming to this year’s show if possible, it is going to be a familiar show for many people, but the St Paul’s cast will surprise you! To any current St Paul’s students or any future students of the school, I would recommend joining the production without any doubt in my mind! It is an experience you will not be able to do once you leave school, and the culture and family environment of the St Paul’s cast is phenomenal! If not getting on stage, there are other opportunities to be involved such as backstage, sound, lighting and hair and makeup!

Legally Blonde The Musical hits the stage at Southwell School Performing Arts Centre July 1-5.
