Students' musical talent put on stage

28 August 2013

St Paul’s Collegiate students John Penyas and Jessica Chanwai are members of the Ripon Piano Quartet which is to perform in the school’s Good Vibrations annual music festival.

Organised by director of extra curricular activities Peter Gilbert, the festival will showcase the best musical talent the school has to offer in a wide range of musical genres.

The Ripon Piano Quartet came together earlier this year and also includes Hamilton Boys High School students Simon Miles and Daniel Ng.

Jessica, Simon and Daniel met through the Suzuki Institute.

The quartet gained a highly com mended at the Regional Chamber Music competitions held in Waikato University’s Academy of performing arts in July playing a work by 20th century English composer William Walton.

Jessica is to take part in the registered music teachers scholarship competition to be held in Cambridge in September.

Also to feature in Good Vibrations will be rising vocalist Jonathan Eyers. The former St Paul’s student is now a Hillary Scholar studying vocal performance at Waikato University and is the winner of the 2013 Waikato Aria competition.

Mrs Flint said Good Vibrations provided an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their musical talent and perform in front of parents, fellow students and the general public.

The students are looking forward to surprising the crowd, as in past years, with their varied and entertaining programme.

This will be an evening not be missed, especially since we have Jonathan Eyers as a guest per former,'' Mrs Flint said.

Good Vibrations will be held in the St Paul’s school chapel 7pm Friday September 6. Tickets can be purchased from the school by calling 07 957 8899 or online goodvibrations@stpauls.school.nz.
