Violinist Victoria Chanwai has passed the Associate of Trinity College London (ACTL) Violin Recital Diploma with distinction.

The standard of performance to pass an ACTL diploma is equivalent to the performance component of a first year undergraduate student at university or other higher education institution.

The Year 11 St Paul’s Collegiate School student achieved total score of 93% and very favourable comments from the examiner.

St Paul’s Director of Music, Michelle Flint, said: "For Victoria to achieve this level of distinction, at the age of 15, is an incredible feat and is a reflection of the hours of hard work and determination that she spends practising each week. We are extremely proud of her."

Victoria practises for forty minutes each day on top of her academic and extracurricular commitments.

For the exam, she had to perform a recital of 32 – 38 minutes and hand in a written programme which provided concise notes on each piece, focusing on its context, content and significance.

She was also selected for the New Zealand Secondary Schools' Symphony Orchestra earlier this year.
