St Paul’s Collegiate is an independent Anglican secondary school situated in Hamilton, New Zealand. Tihoi Venture School is our Year 10 residential outdoor campus situated on the western side of Lake Taupo. With two, 18-week intakes each year the programme combines academics, outdoor pursuits, community living and social activities to give our young men confidence, build their resilience and develop their independence, giving them a valuable head start into their senior years and life beyond school.
Tihoi has been in operation for 40 years and is a well-established centre with passionate staff and purpose-built facilities. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, energetic and well-organised person to lead our Tihoi Venture School. This unique and varied role requires outstanding skills in pastoral care, as well as exceptional leadership and communication skills.
The Director is responsible for the day to day management of the venture school. It requires exceptional relationship management skills and the ability to oversee all aspects of the operations including staff (approximately 12) and student management (approximately 70 students per intake), academic achievement, outdoor pursuits, health and safety, budgets, facilities management and infrastructure development. The Venture School is an important part of the wider local community and the ability to continue to build and maintain these relationships is essential.
The Director must be an experienced and registered teacher who is able to inspire staff to develop and improve the educational programmes and the diverse range of outdoor pursuits, academic classes and social development programmes. There is a teaching component to this role, and the successful candidate will be required to have the ability to teach Year 10 English / Maths / Science or Social Science. Experience in Outdoor Education and/ or NZOIA (or equivalent) qualifications would also be expected of the successful candidate.
This role reports to the Headmaster and has close working relationships with the Deputy Headmaster – Pastoral, the Chaplain and other senior pastoral care staff.
All Tihoi staff live onsite (with their families) in provided accommodation and make a full commitment to the co-curricular and pastoral care of the students. You and your family will be welcomed into our close-knit onsite community and you’ll enjoy the benefits of living and working in such a picturesque environment.
This is a rare opportunity for a dedicated leader to play a pivotal and influential role at Tihoi Venture School and in turn, there will be a significant opportunity for personal and professional growth. A competitive remuneration package is on offer for the successful candidate, and support with relocation (if required).
This position will ideally commence well in advance of the start of the Tihoi Intake Two, 2020 (13 July 2020). The current Director who has been at the centre for the past 16 years will be on hand to support the successful candidate with their transition into the role.
