Hockey - 1st XI Boys

v Hamilton Boys High School 1st XI

Date: Wednesday, 3 June 2015 at 7.00pm
Venue: Water 1
Result: Won
Score: 2-0

On Wednesday night the 1st XI team played against traditional rivals HBHS and the National Champions (2013 & 2014) for the Matthew Allen Trophy and Bartholomew Cup.

The 1st XI realized the importance of the game having being unlucky not to win the trophy for the past couple years. The team needed to play at their best both individually and collectively as a team. The wet and slippery hockey surface made playing attractive hockey difficult. However, St Paul’s XI adapted well to the playing conditions and made most of their opportunities within the opposition circle. Rueben Andrew’s scored the first goal from a Penalty Corner which provided immense relief for everyone watching. The team continued to demonstrate their excellent skills in the first half to lead at half time score 1- 0.

In the second half HBHS came back at St Paul’s but St Paul’s defensive skills remained strong and robust. St Paul’s scored another goal from a well taken penalty corner from Rueben Andrews. In the last 10 minutes HBHS tried hard to crawl back into the game but Simon Morbey our man of steel goal keeper was at his best and denied the opposition any opportunity of scoring.

Finally, thank you for all attending and supporting us on this momentous occasion and congratulations to the whole team and management on their excellent efforts on Wednesday night.
