Cricket - Colts XI

v Lindisfarne College

Date: Monday, 15 February 2016
Venue: Lindisfarne
Result: Lost

The Colts had a tough time at Lindisfarne. The opposition were a strong side and our boys were not used to playing at the intensity that two day cricket requires. We bowled first after losing the toss and made a good start claiming two quick wickets. Lindisfarne dug in though and proceeded to rebuild their innings. We helped them do this somewhat through poor fielding. At the end of the first session Lindisfarne were 158-4 and the boys were very flat. The break seemed to inspire the team though and through some excellent bowling from Shiv Achary, David Hancock and George Ott we managed to restrict them to 196. Our innings got off to a terrible start however, losing a wicket in the first over and at stumps we were in a spot of bother at 23-3. Overnight the council (council ground) watered the wicket resulting in a delayed start. When we eventually did get going, batting was extremely difficult and we struggled to 84 and were forced to follow on. We made a much better start in our second innings but still found things tough. We managed not to get bowled out again though, and at the end of the day Lindisfarne still needed to claim three wickets to secure an outright win. The end result therefore, was a first innings win to Lindisfarne. Congratulations must go Jack Sturm who batted for 34 overs to hold the innings together.
