v Te Awamutu College

Date: Saturday, 13 May 2017 at 9.20am
Venue: Te Awamutu College Field 1
Result: Won
Score: 20-19

The team came up against a well-coached and skillful Te Awamutu side.

Neither team could get real dominance and the defence of both teams led to mistakes from the opposition.

It would be fair to say that Te Awamutu played better as a team, where we relied on individual brilliance. Te Awamutu scored first but we quickly replied with a good try from Captain, Gus Hanham. Just before half time Te Awamutu scored again to lead 12-5 at half time.

We did not make the best start to the second half and Te Awamutu scored another converted try to lead 19-5, after this we managed to hold on to the ball for longer periods of time as we supported the ball carrier better and contested the breakdown well.

We then managed to score two tries, but were still 19-15 down with two minutes to play. We managed to hold onto the ball and put Te Awamutu under real pressure, with them giving away a lot of penalties in the final minutes. With time up on the clock Lachlan Townsend took an outside break but was brought down just before the line, he skillfully popped the ball up for Harry Derry who dived over in the corner for the winning try.
