Rugby - 1st XV

v Rathkeale

Date: Saturday, 24 June 2017
Venue: St Paul's Field 1
Result: Won
Score: 59-7

The 1st XV played Rathkeale College on Saturday as part of their Central North Island Competition. While they were expected to win, Rathkeale had still performed well enough for the team not to take them lightly. St Paul’s started very well scoring two converted tries in the first 10 minutes and then through a series of penalties against them allowed Rathkeale to dominate the next 10. After this SPC settled back into their attacking structure, scoring another 3 tries to lead 33 nil at halftime. In the 2nd half Rathkeale lifted their game and managed to score a try, while SPC continued to attack whenever they could and scored another 4 tries themselves. Standout players were Sam Cooper, George Dyer and Jock Yarndley in the forwards and Ferg Burke, Valynce Crosby-Te Whare, and Mercedes Hodge in the backs.
