Cricket - 1st XI

v Old Collegians

Date: Sunday, 3 February 2013
Result: Won

St Paul's won the toss and elected to bat against an experienced and powerful looking Old Collegian's team on a cloudless and balmy morning.

Kippa Fawcett 33 and Dillon Kelliher 24 put on 63 runs before Dillon had to retire because of an injury from some hostile bowling by the Old Collegian's captain Guy Schwikkard. Scott Finlayson 47 and Chris Swanson 54 continued the momentum and put on 90 runs before Scott lost his wicket to a careless shot just as he was set and Chris was adjudged LBW to see St Paul's 184/4. Young Alistair Blackett survived hostile bowling from his older brother Ben and Owen Robinson to score his second 50 [57 off 50 balls] in record quick time to see St Paul's through to a superb 255/6 in 45 overs. Guy Schwikkard was the most successful bowler taking 4/46.

The Old Collegian's took up the challenge of 5.67 in aggressive fashion with Brook Fawcett 24, Angus Harris 29, Ben Blackett 41 and Guy Schwikkard 25 all scoring freely but were in the end no match for the superb St Paul’s XI who bowled and fielded superbly. They were eventually bowled out in 34 overs for 194 allowing St Paul's to win comfortably by 61 runs. Cameron Wratt 2/11, Simon Morbey 2/20 and Scott Finlayson 2/20 were the most successful bowlers.

Players of the day were Chris Swanson and Alistair Blackett.

This is excellent preparation for the Lindisfarne fixture next weekend and also for the local competition.

The day was a huge success and the school appreciates the commitment by the Old Boy's. Thank you to Guy for organising the team and Deborah McRae from Old Collegain's for her efforts.
