Cricket - 1st XI

v Hinuera
Mike Cotter Cup

Date: Saturday, 2 November 2013 at 10.30am
Venue: St Paul's
Result: Won

St Paul's were in early trouble at 2 for 5 from two over, but senior players Chris Swanson 55 and Scott Finlayson 57 settled in to play beautifully in putting on 117 before both players uncharacteristically gave it away when big scores loomed. Aditya Sakalkale with an excellent 42 joined coach Mark Bailey who made 61 as they put on a further 96 to see St Paul's to an imposing 242 for 7. Running between the wickets was much improved this week and St Paul's gained many bonus runs in pressuring the Hinuera field. especially later in the innings.

Hinuera got off to a quick start in terms of run rates, but this week the St Paul's field were able to hang on to their catches as Hinuera consistently lost wickets. A one handed catch at mid on by a surly Simon Morbey dismissed the Hinuera top scorer for 38 which was a turning point. Morbey 3 for 34, Malpas 3 for 31 and Finlayson then took a further 2 wickets each as they sliced through the lower order to dismiss Hinuera for 147. This was a much better performance by the 1st XI to beat last years champions by 95 runs.
