▪ Director of Rowing

Located in St Paul's Collegiate School Hamilton

St Paul’s Collegiate School is a leading independent school situated in Hamilton that has a well-rounded sporting culture and a drive for High-Performance sporting success.

The St Paul’s Rowing Club has a team of more than 80 rowers and coxswains who train at a privately owned boat shed on the Waikato River. Our programme is well-resourced, with a modern fleet covering all boat classes and a comprehensive plant and asset purchase plan in place.

We are seeking to appoint a Director of Rowing who will lead our school's rowing programme on and off the water from the start of the 2026 / 2027 rowing season. St Paul’s Rowing Club is in a positive growth phase, and the school is incredibly proud of the current culture, engagement and success of its programme.

We are looking for an inspiring leader with experience coaching rowing and working with young people. Leading a team of experienced and successful coaches, you will motivate and support our athletes while setting high standards for commitment, attitude, presentation and enthusiasm within the programme. The successful candidate will also provide the technical coaching direction and skill development for both rowers and the coaching team, while coaching one or more rowing squads.

The Director of Rowing is supported by an active and motivated committee and an experienced team of eight coaches. The role is an important link between the St Paul’s Rowing Club Committee and the school. We are looking for someone who is collaborative, well organised, able to operate both strategically and operationally, and confident in communicating with a wide range of stakeholders. Our ideal candidate will be a passionate and capable leader with substantial experience in rowing and working with young people. This may include a fully registered teacher with strong rowing experience, or someone with proven experience coaching and leading rowing at a school or representative level.

The Director of Rowing role is offered as a 0.5 FTE position. Depending on the successful candidate’s skills and experience, there may be opportunities to increase this to a full-time role through additional employment within the school. This could include areas such as teaching, learning support (teacher aide), sports administration, or general administration.

Working at St Paul’s you will be joining a supportive and collegial group of professionals. Staff are appreciated and valued for their hard work. Along with a competitive remuneration package, other benefits include daily cooked lunches, flexible hours and access to excellent facilities.

Ideally, the successful candidate will be ready to commence from August 2026. The Director of Rowing will hold responsibility and accountability for the effective operation of the rowing programme, including health and safety both on and off the water, pastoral care and oversight of athletes including in the programme, and residential camps, and ensuring clear communication and well understood processes across the programme. This includes maintaining clarity around expectations, selection criteria and programme standards for rowers, families and coaches.
