After winning the three grading games fairly easily, the Development XV got their first feel of 1st Division rugby playing against St Johns 1st XV on Saturday. With the conditions not suiting our running patterns, and being by far the smaller team, we found ourselves under pressure at the set pieces and struggled to build up go-forward ball. This resulted in much of the rugby being played in our half with St Johns putting us under constant pressure. Despite brave defence, we could not hold the opposition out and the game ended with our first loss of the season. This game was a valuable learning curve for the Development XV who now realise the intensity that is needed to play in the 1st Division.
