Football - 1st XI

College Day - Pre Season Tournament

Date: Saturday, 7 May 2016

College Day is a pre season invitational tournament which includes the top performing 1st XI's from around the Waikato. The games are 40 minutes long with a minimum of 3 games played over the day. With a large number of influential senior players finishing school at the end of 2015 this years team had a very new and young look to it. It was obvious from the first game against HBHS that size and experience is going to be a big hurdle. However, tenacity, energy and courage are not. The boys chased hard and while going down 3-0 to HBHS, they can be extremely proud of their efforts.

In game 2 against Hillcrest a slow start proved to be costly. An amazing shot from 40 yards out followed by another strong solo effort saw us go 2 nil down after 10 minutes. St Paul's controlled the pace of the game from that point on. George Ott scored his and the teams first goal of the season, but time ran out and the game finished 2-1 to Hillcrest.

Game 3 saw us come up against Cambridge HS,who were coming off an impressive 2-1 victory over St Peter's. Fitnesses and determination where key with St Paul's out hustling their bigger and more experienced opponents. We created far more opportunities and George Ott took one of them scoring his second goal for the competition. the 1 - 0 victory was well deserved and starts the season off on an encouraging High.
