Football - 1st XI

v Cambridge

Date: Saturday, 24 August 2013 at 8.30am
Venue: Unknown
Result: Won
Score: 3-0

After a week of intensive training in the wake of their unexpected defeat to St John’s, the 1st XI recorded a morale-boosting win, defeating Cambridge 3-0. Cambridge played with their customary competiveness, but in the end the St Paul’s footballing quality shone through. The scorers on the day were Jacob Robb, John Penyas and Dan Goodwin. Dan’s goal came as a consequence of him running 70 metres from his centre half position, to get on the end of a cross that came as a consequence of a St Paul’s counter-attack. This win was a great tournament tonic and with another weeks intensive training in the offing, the team should be primed and ready to face Timaru in the opening game of the tournament.
