St Paul’s Collegiate School is seeking a reliable, organised, and adaptable Visual Arts Technician to support the delivery of our vibrant visual arts and creative programmes. This is a part-time, term-time role of 8 hours per week, ideally worked over two days, with some flexibility during peak times or key events.
As a key support member of the department, the technician will assist with the preparation and maintenance of materials, tools, and equipment across our art and photography studios (supporting the fields of: painting, photography, sculpture and ceramics), helping to ensure our teaching spaces are well organised, resourced, and safe. The role also involves supporting the presentation of student work – from documenting and preparing work for assessment to installing exhibitions and displays throughout the school.
In addition to supporting the Visual Arts, the technician will also occasionally assist with Fabric Technology, which is a new subject we have introduced this year. This involves light assistance in preparing textiles, setting up equipment such as sewing machines and other specialist equipment in this space.
We are looking for someone who is organised, practical, proactive, and passionate about the creative arts – someone who enjoys being part of a creative environment and is confident working both independently and as part of a team. A background in visual arts, textiles, design or photography is desirable, along with familiarity with materials, tools, and creative processes used in art and/or fabric technology classrooms.
St Paul’s Collegiate School is a leading independent school in Hamilton with a proud tradition of academic, arts, cultural, and sporting excellence. Our Visual Arts Department is a dynamic and inspiring environment, and the introduction of Fabric Technology has provided new opportunities for students to explore their creativity.
