    Mrs Jackie Lock joined St Paul’s in 2009 as a senior Biology teacher, bringing extensive experience from New Zealand and overseas. Prior to joining St Paul’s, she taught Biology for many years in South Africa, where she also held roles as Head of Department and a member of the senior management team.

    Since joining St Paul’s, Mrs Lock has held significant leadership roles within both the academic and boarding areas of the school. She has served as Head of Biology and has been closely involved in the boarding community, including time as Housemaster of Harington Day and later as Housemaster of Harington Boarding.

    Mrs Lock holds a Bachelor of Science and a Higher Diploma in Education from the University of Pretoria and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership with first-class honours from the University of Waikato.

    Mrs Lock brings strong pastoral care skills to her work and relates well to young people. She is also an able sportswoman and enjoys coaching netball and athletics. Outside of school, she values time with her family and is active in her faith community.

    Mr Matt Rees-Gibbs joined St Paul’s in 2020, bringing strong experience from high-performance sport and education. Prior to joining St Paul’s, he worked with Midlands Hockey Association as Operations Manager and Development Coach and brings extensive experience in hockey development and athlete pathways.

    Mr Rees-Gibbs teaches within the Physical Education department and is actively involved in coaching. A former elite hockey player, he values supporting student-athletes to develop skills, confidence, and a strong understanding of performance sport. Alongside his teaching role, he also serves as a Housemaster within the boarding community, supporting students both academically and pastorally.

    Mr Rees-Gibbs holds a Bachelor of Sports and Leisure Studies and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary) from the University of Waikato.

    Outside of school, Mr Rees-Gibbs enjoys coaching hockey, playing golf, and spending time with his family, including his wife and twin children.

    Mr Tapara has been a valued member of our community since the start of 2022, when he joined us as a teacher and the Deputy Housemaster of Sargood.

    With 18 years of teaching experience, including his time as Assistant Principal of Sommerville School in Auckland, he brings a wealth of expertise to the role. His deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities that come with boarding school life has prepared him well for the responsibilities of a Housemaster.

    He is specialised in intensive education for students with emotional and behavioural difficulties. Constantly upskilling, Mr Tapara has also completed courses at Growth Coaching New Zealand and The Education Group, which seeks to improve the culture around teachers, students and communities.

    Mr Adam Ross joined St Paul’s in 2021 and works within the boarding community as Deputy Housemaster of Williams House. He brings previous boarding leadership experience from Feilding High School, where he served as Head of Boys’ Boarding.

    Mr Ross teaches Mathematics and enjoys supporting students academically, particularly within the Williams House community. He brings experience from teaching roles in New Zealand and overseas, including time spent teaching in London, Hawke’s Bay, and Sydney.

    Mr Ross holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Sydney. He is passionate about competitive sport and is actively involved in rugby coaching at St Paul’s, contributing across both Sevens and XVs programmes. He also enjoys long-distance running.

    Mrs Rachel Wallis joined St Paul’s in 2023. She brings strong experience across curriculum leadership, pastoral care, and assessment.

    Mrs Wallis began her teaching career at St Paul’s as a teacher of English and later held a range of leadership roles at Cambridge High School. These included Kaahui Ako Across School Leader, Teacher in Charge roles, Year Level and House Dean, and Staff Trustee. She has also taught at St Peter’s School Cambridge and Waikato Diocesan School for Girls and has worked as an external NCEA marker for many years.

    Mrs Wallis holds a conjoint Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Teaching from the University of Waikato.

    Outside of school, Mrs Wallis enjoys netball and supporting her family’s involvement in sport and reading.

    Mr Jason Sharma joined St Paul’s in 2023 as a Teacher of Mathematics and Housemaster of Fitchett House, bringing experience from secondary education in New Zealand and overseas.

    Mr Sharma previously taught Mathematics and Statistics at Rototuna Senior High School, where he also contributed to pastoral care through a dean-level role. Prior to this, he taught at Tamaki College and spent time teaching internationally in South Korea. He values the pastoral role of schools and enjoys supporting students both academically and within the house system.

    Mr Sharma holds a conjoint Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Finance, and a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Statistics and Geology. He also completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary) through the University of Auckland.

    Outside of school, Mr Sharma enjoys playing and coaching ultimate frisbee and values time spent with his family.

    Mr Ryan McCarthy joined St Paul’s in 2011 as a member of the teaching staff. A former Collegian (Sargood House, 1993–1997), he brings a deep understanding of the school and its boarding culture. Prior to returning to St Paul’s, he taught at Onehunga High School and Macleans College.

    Mr McCarthy has held significant leadership roles within the boarding community and has served as Housemaster of both Sargood House and Hall House. He values the pastoral role of boarding and enjoys supporting students to grow academically, socially, and personally.

    Mr McCarthy holds a Bachelor of Physical Education and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching from the University of Otago.

    Alongside his teaching and boarding responsibilities, Mr McCarthy has been heavily involved in co-curricular sport, including rugby, weightlifting, touch, and athletics. He brings extensive experience as a high-performance athlete and enjoys supporting student involvement in sport.

    Mr Keegan Stewart joined St Paul’s in 2011, coming from St John’s College. He brings experience from both classroom teaching and pastoral leadership and has also taught internationally through the AIESEC organisation, working with secondary school students in Poland.

    Mr Stewart holds a Bachelor of Science and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching from the University of Waikato. He has worked across both boarding and day houses and has held roles as Deputy Housemaster and Housemaster, contributing strongly to the pastoral life of the school.

    Mr Stewart enjoys supporting students beyond the classroom and is actively involved in co-curricular programmes, including girls’ football and adventure racing through the Get2Go Challenge.

    Mr Dan Teka joined St Paul’s in 2018. A former Collegian (Sargood House, 2001–2005), he brings a strong connection to the school and its boarding culture. Prior to entering teaching, he worked in banking services before completing his business studies.

    Mr Teka teaches Business Studies and values building strong relationships with students. He serves as Housemaster of School House and enjoys supporting students both academically and pastorally within the boarding environment.

    Mr Teka holds a Bachelor of Business Analysis from the University of Waikato and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching.

    Mr Jeremy Nielsen joined St Paul’s in 2022, bringing experience from Hillcrest High School, where he taught Woodwork, Metalwork, and Design and Visual Communication. He also held Head of Department roles in Design and Visual Communication Technology and Woodwork.

    Mr Nielsen brings strong practical and technical expertise to his teaching, supported by experience in the building industry. He values hands-on learning and enjoys supporting students to develop practical skills and design thinking.

    Mr Nielsen holds a Certificate in Carpentry from the Canterbury Polytechnic Institute of Technology, a Graduate Diploma in Engineering, and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary) from the University of Waikato.

    Mr Lincoln Churchill brings extensive experience as an international hockey coach, having worked full-time in coaching roles in a range of locations around the world. A former Black Stick, he brings a strong understanding of high-performance sport and a passion for developing young athletes.

    Mr Churchill has played a key role in the St Paul’s hockey programme, where he has contributed as Director of Hockey and as a teacher. He values the positive impact sport can have within a school environment and enjoys working closely with students both on and off the field.

    In addition to his coaching role, Mr Churchill is passionate about pastoral care. He brings valuable boarding experience from his time as an Assistant Housemaster at Christchurch Boys’ High School and places strong emphasis on building meaningful relationships and investing in people within the boarding community.

    Mr Luke Katene started at St Paul’s in 2026, joining from Hamilton Boys’ High School, where he taught Business Studies and Accounting. During his time there, he held a number of leadership roles, including Teacher in Charge of Business Studies, Year 10 Dean, and a role within the boarding house.

    Mr Katene is passionate about business education and supporting students both academically and pastorally. Prior to entering teaching, he worked at Deloitte and brings strong real-world business experience into the classroom.

    Mr Katene holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Canterbury and a Graduate Diploma of Teaching from the University of Waikato.

    Outside of school, Mr Katene enjoys spending time with his family and planning trips together. His interests include playing and watching sport, camping, surfing, spending time at the gym, and enjoying good food.

    Matron Judi Bishop joined St Paul's in 2025, helping in the boarding house and the health clinic. In 2026, she stepped in as the Williams House matron, loving every minute of the role.

    Before starting at St Paul's, Matron worked as a nurse overseas and in Waikato for 56 years. She retired from nursing but was soon drawn into the team at St Paul's.

    Matron is passionate about all sports. She spends her spare time with her children, grandchildren, and dachshund dog. She loves reading a good book and playing lawn bowls.

    Mr Byron de Beer joined St Paul’s in 2015 as a member of the Mathematics Department. A former Collegian, he attended St Paul’s between 2002 and 2006, where he served as Head of House and Chapel Prefect.

    Mr de Beer holds a Science degree with majors in Chemistry and Mathematics and began his teaching career at St Peter’s College in Auckland, where he developed as both a classroom teacher and a coach across athletics, football, and rowing.

    Mr de Beer has continued his professional study alongside teaching, completing a Graduate Diploma in Engineering, a Postgraduate Certificate in Digital and Collaborative Learning through Unitec, and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Theology through Carey.

    Alongside his teaching role, Mr de Beer coaches football and futsal and serves as Assistant Housemaster of School House, where he supports students within the boarding and pastoral community.

Prior to returning to St Paul’s, he taught Outdoor Education and Physical Education at Hamilton Boys’ High School and also spent time working as a tutor at Tihoi Venture School.

    Mr Johnson brings extensive experience in outdoor education alongside classroom teaching. His background includes work with Hillary Outdoors and outdoor instruction roles in New Zealand and overseas, including Canada. He values experiential learning and enjoys supporting students to develop resilience, confidence, and a connection to the outdoors.

    Mr Johnson holds a Bachelor of Sport Science from the University of Auckland and a teaching qualification from the University of Canterbury. He has taught both Mathematics and Outdoor Education and enjoys demonstrating to students the value of combining academic learning with practical, real-world skills.

    Ms Savannah Patterson joined St Paul’s in 2022 as a teacher of English and Media Studies. A former Collegian (Harington House, 2013–2014), she brings a strong connection to the school and its co-curricular life.

    Ms Patterson is passionate about English and Media Studies and enjoys supporting students to develop strong communication, critical thinking, and creative skills. She also values being involved in co-curricular activities, including girls’ cricket.

    Ms Patterson holds a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in English, New Media Studies, and Creative Writing, and a Master’s degree in Creative Writing from Auckland University of Technology. She also completed a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Teaching through the University of Waikato.     Mrs Jane Spenceley joined St Paul’s in 2015 as a teacher of Chemistry. She brings a strong background in science education and enjoys supporting students both in the classroom and through wider school involvement.

    Mrs Spenceley teaches Chemistry and holds leadership roles as Teacher in Charge of Chemistry and Deputy Housemaster of Harington Day. She values contributing to both academic and pastoral areas of school life and enjoys working closely with students across a range of settings.

    Mrs Spenceley holds a Master of Science in Chemistry and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching from the University of Waikato. During her studies, she worked as a tutor and laboratory demonstrator, which supported her interest in education.

    Alongside her teaching and pastoral roles, Mrs Spenceley has been involved in a range of co-curricular activities, including conducting the concert band, supporting school productions through costuming, and managing the Girls’ First XI Hockey team.

    Ms Anna Strickett joined St Paul's in 2024 from Rolleston College in Christchurch, where she spent two years as the teacher in charge of Gifted and Talented students in English. Her role also involved providing support to students pursuing Scholarship English in Year 13. Prior to this, Ms Strickett taught at Hamilton Girls' High School. In 2025, she was appointed as Deputy Housemaster of Harington Day House.

    Educated at Massey University, Ms Strickett holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in English and Classical studies and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning.

    Beyond her academic pursuits, Ms Strickett is a passionate reader and has a love for the outdoors and hiking.

    Dr Jason McGrath joined St Paul’s in 2003 after gaining a PhD in Microbial Biochemistry from the University of Waikato and being employed for five years as an Environmental Scientist at AgResearch.

    As well as teaching Chemistry and Science, Dr McGrath is the school’s Cambridge International Examinations Coordinator. He is also a member of the Senior Leadership Group and the coordinator of accelerated learning and scholarship within the school, as well as being the long-time Assistant Housemaster of Fitchett House.

    Dr McGrath’s sports coaching and playing interests include; basketball, cricket and rugby.

    Mrs Angela Bromwich joined St Paul’s from St Cuthbert’s College, bringing extensive experience in commerce education and academic leadership. She has previously held Head of Department roles in Commerce and leadership positions across a range of secondary school settings.

    Mrs Bromwich has considerable expertise in curriculum development and assessment. Her work includes roles as an NZQA contractor, national moderator, panel leader for NCEA Accounting Levels 1 and 2, digital assessment writer, and materials developer.

    Mrs Bromwich holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Auckland and brings a strong understanding of assessment practice and curriculum design to her teaching and leadership.

    Mrs Di Taumalolo joined St Paul’s in 2025, bringing experience from both Hastings Boys’ High School and Hamilton Boys’ High School. She also brings an international perspective to her teaching, having spent time living and working overseas, including several years in France.

    Mrs Taumalolo teaches English and Social Sciences and is passionate about supporting tauira to grow into well-rounded, empathetic, and curious learners. She values thoughtful discussion, critical thinking, and connection within the classroom.

    Mrs Taumalolo studied in New Zealand and England and holds a Bachelor of Laws with Honours and a Bachelor of Arts.

    Outside of school, Mrs Taumalolo enjoys spending time with her family and being involved in rural life. She is also connected to rowing, horse riding, and rugby communities.

    Mr Neethling values the role of house systems in supporting student wellbeing and enjoys working closely with students within the wider school community. He has a particular passion for cricket and enjoys being involved in the sporting life of the school.

    Mr Kieran Taylor joined St Paul’s in 2021 as a teacher of History and Social Sciences. He brings experience from Thames High School, where he held the role of Teacher in Charge of History and also served as Co-Dean for Year 13 students.

    Mr Taylor values supporting students to develop strong historical understanding and social awareness. He brings a balanced approach to classroom teaching and pastoral care, drawing on his leadership experience at senior level.

    Mr Taylor holds a Bachelor of Social Science from the University of Waikato, with majors in History and Geography.

    Outside of the classroom, Mr Taylor has been heavily involved in co-curricular sport and enjoys coaching rugby and cricket.

    Mr Bruce Rawson has been an educator since 2001, bringing a wealth of experience to his role as the Head of Drama at St Paul's, which he has held since 2015.

    Before joining St Paul's, Mr Rawson taught in both New Zealand and the United Kingdom. His previous roles include Head of the Arts department and Year 12 Dean at Rangitikei College in Marton.

    In the UK, Mr Rawson served for six years as the teacher in charge of drama and as a boarding house tutor at the Royal Alexandra and Albert School. An alumnus of Whangarei Boys’ High School, he pursued his tertiary education at the University of Waikato, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Drama and a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching.

    Mrs Katie Lilley joined St Paul’s in 2007 and has held a number of leadership roles within both boarding and the Mathematics Department. She has served as Housemaster of Harington Day and Harington Boarding and currently works as Deputy Housemaster of Harington Boarding alongside her role as Assistant Head of Department in Mathematics.

    Mrs Lilley brings extensive experience in Mathematics education, having taught in both the United Kingdom and New Zealand prior to joining St Paul’s. Her background includes department leadership roles and a strong commitment to supporting students academically and pastorally within a boarding school environment.

    Mrs Lilley holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Loughborough University and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Mathematics with Physical Education, also from Loughborough University.

    Outside of the classroom, Mrs Lilley is a keen sportswoman. She has participated in a wide range of sports and now focuses on trail running, competing in events around New Zealand.

    Mrs Nicole Schollum joined St Paul’s in 2018 as a teacher of Science and Biology. She brings experience from secondary education and enjoys supporting students across both academic and pastoral areas of school life.

    Mrs Schollum holds a conjoint Bachelor of Teaching and Bachelor of Science from the University of Waikato, majoring in Biology with a minor in Earth Science. Prior to joining St Paul’s, she taught Biology and Science at Tuakau College.

    Mrs Schollum is actively involved in pastoral care and values supporting students to feel confident and supported within the school community. She is also an able sportswoman and enjoys coaching a range of sports, including basketball, volleyball, touch, and netball.

    Jack Walters (Williams 2014-2018) holds a Bachelor of Arts in Film, TV & Game Composition with honours from Berklee College of Music and has completed a Master of Teaching and Learning.

    Mr Walters teaches Junior English and Science. He also provides one-on-one lessons in Piano, Music Theory, and Music Production and works as a Residential Assistant at Clark House. He previously served as the Musical Director of Performing Arts at Fairfield Intermediate School, where he guided students in preparing for their annual school musicals.

    In his spare time, Jack enjoys trail running, gardening, and exploring all aspects of music.

    Josh studied Computer Science in Wellington and hails from the Hauraki Plains. At St Paul's, his role includes IT support across software, hardware, and sound needs.
