Europe inspires students through the Art, Literature and Culture Tour

St Paul’s students are currently enjoying an unforgettable educational tour through England, France and Italy, immersing themselves in some of Europe’s most significant artistic, historical and cultural destinations.

The journey began in London, where students explored the city’s rich history through guided tours of iconic landmarks, visited world-renowned galleries including the National Portrait Gallery, Saatchi Gallery and Tate Modern, and experienced outstanding performances of Hamilton in the West End and A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. Visits to Stratford-upon-Avon and Windsor Castle provided further insight into England’s literary and royal heritage.

From London, the group travelled by Eurostar to Paris, where they explored the Palace of Versailles, the Louvre Museum, Sacré-Cœur Basilica, the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower. A cruise along the River Seine and an evening at the Moulin Rouge were among the many memorable highlights.

One of the highlights of the group’s time in Paris was visiting the Eiffel Tower, where students were treated to spectacular panoramic views across the city. Standing atop one of the world’s most recognisable landmarks provided a memorable perspective of Paris and was a special moment for many. The visit was followed by time to explore the surrounding area, allowing students to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy one of the city’s most iconic locations.

The tour has since continued to Venice, where students have experienced the internationally renowned Venice Biennale, explored the New Zealand Pavilion featuring photographer Fiona Pardington, visited the famous glassmaking island of Murano, and taken part in an authentic Italian cooking class, learning to make fresh pasta and tiramisu.

Throughout the tour, students have embraced every opportunity with curiosity, enthusiasm and maturity. Whether navigating London’s Underground, travelling on the Paris Metro or exploring Venice by water bus, deepening their understanding of art, history and culture through firsthand experiences.

The group now looks ahead to the final stages of the tour through Rome and Madrid before returning home later this week with a wealth of new experiences, lasting memories and stories to share.
