Finn Freemantle National Surf Lifesaving Championships

Finn Freemantle National Surf Lifesaving Championships

13 March 2026

Over the weekend, Finn competed at the New Zealand Surf Life Saving Championships in Ōhope and delivered an outstanding series of results in the Under 17 division.

Finn was crowned New Zealand Under 17 Board Race Champion, an exceptional achievement in one of the sport’s most demanding events. He also placed 3rd in the Under 17 Ironman and was part of the silver medal winning Under 17 Board Relay team representing Whangamatā Surf Life Saving Club.

In addition to these podium finishes, Finn achieved 4th place in the Under 17 Board Rescue, Ski Relay, and Beach Relay events, demonstrating his consistency across multiple disciplines.

The championships follow a gruelling format, requiring athletes to race through heats and semifinals to reach the finals. Finn qualified for the final in every event he entered, meaning he competed in approximately 10 to 12 races each day across four days of competition.

This is a remarkable achievement and reflects both his fitness and his determination. His performances place him among the very best surf lifesaving competitors in his age group in New Zealand.

With these results behind him, Finn now turns his attention to the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships at Kirra Beach on the Gold Coast later this month, where he will compete against the best athletes from across Australia and New Zealand.

Congratulations to Finn on a fantastic performance and we wish him all the best for Australia 2026.
