Under grey Waikato skies and in front of packed sidelines, the annual St. Peter’s versus St Paul’s Sports Exchange once again delivered everything the rivalry is famous for – intensity, pride, sportsmanship and unforgettable moments of school spirit.
Across courts, fields and turf, students, staff, parents and Collegians created an electric atmosphere as the two schools battled for supremacy in one of the most anticipated sporting fixtures. From the opening whistle to the final contests of the day, the support from the sidelines was immense, highlighted by the thunderous St Paul’s “Viking Clap” echoing to welcome St Paul’s players to commence their games.
The results of the day were:
St Paul’s emerged as the overall winners of the Exchange Cup following strong performances across multiple codes. The Boys’ Premier Basketball side dominated with a commanding 109–51 win, while the Boys First XV Rugby team secured a thrilling 36–29 victory to move St Paul’s to the top of the CNI Rugby competition table. Further wins came in Boys First XI Hockey (3–1), while both Boys and Girls First XI Football sides had hard-fought draws.
Although the Girls First XI Hockey and Girls Premier Reserve Netball teams narrowly went down, the determination and sportsmanship shown throughout the day reflected the true spirit of the exchange.
