Students add to medal tally at national athletic champs

St Paul’s Collegiate shot putter Ryan Ballantyne set a new personal best on his way to winning the national secondary schools title in Timaru on the weekend, with his 19.53m mark .7m more than anyone else managed.

Jess Hood, another St Paul’s student, won the girls' 400m race at the championships, in a time of 55.57 sec.

Hood was also a member of the St Paul’s 4x100m girls' relay team which won their event with a time of 49.01 sec, alongside Emanae Ferguson, Jade Henley-Smith and Maddy Tims.

The same quartet lined up in the 4x400m relay, where they finished second in a time of 4 min 0.10 sec.

St Paul’s 4x100m boys' relay team, featuring Jack Gordon, Sal M'Boge, Tom Yarrall and James Wilkins, came second.
