Third in shearing and woolhandling competition

3 March 2014

Once again Josh has done the St Paul’s family proud, managing to reach the Junior Shearing final at the Golden Shears, shearing and woolhandling competition, on Thursday.

On Thursday, sixty-six competitors shore in the heats with the top eighteen to progress to the semi-finals. On Friday the successful eighteen shore again, this time only the top six progressed to the final.

Saturday afternoon saw Josh on stage competing against five other full time shearers (all older than him). He had whats called a difficult shear, where they sheep were not cooperating and creating some strife (kicking and not wanting to be shorn). Particularly difficult was the first sheep of the five to be shorn in the final but Josh keep his cool and battled on remembering his quality and not getting caught up in the race for the time stakes.

He finished a very well deserved third. The points were extremely close. Well done Josh!
