St Paul’s Collegiate School is one of New Zealand’s leading private day and boarding schools for boys (Years 9-13) and girls (Years 11-13). Located in Hamilton, St Paul’s offers a learning environment that fosters academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, character education and traditional values.
Small size of just under 750 students creates a close family environment allowing each student to be known personally by their teachers and peers. This intimate environment allows for small class sizes in which students have greater teacher assistance in an achievement-focused environment.
Although there is a strong focus on academic achievement, students are expected to be first and foremost good people; then successful students and scholars who strive to embrace our strong academic tradition; and, finally, individuals who learn to work together and cooperate with one another in the classroom and day-to-day environment.
Tihoi Venture School is New Zealand’s only 18-week outdoor programme designed specifically for Year 10 boys. Students are stripped of modern technology such as television and mobile phones and placed into communal living with seven age-mates, regular schooling and outdoor experiences.
Each week the boys spend three days in the outdoors and four days in the classroom where they participate in an academic programme in all mainstream subjects. Outdoor pursuits include kayaking, sailing, rock climbing, mountain craft, sea kayaking, caving, bush survival, tramping, abseiling and the high ropes challenge course.
Both the outdoor and academic programmes are underpinned by a clearly articulated and modeled virtues and values programme that develops young men into independent, responsible and contributing members of society.
