$260k scholarship success for St Paul’s students

St Paul’s students tallied up an impressive $260,000 worth of scholarships for the 2015 tertiary school year.

Three major scholarships, each valued at $50k, were awarded to Head Girl Jessica Chanwai, Deputy Head Boy John Penyas and School House Prefect Sahil Patil.

Jessica and Sahil are both off to Auckland University to study a premedical science degree as a pathway to medicine. If both students maintain a GPA of 6.0 (B+ average) then they will be fast-tracked to study second year medicine at the university.

John Penyas will attend the University of Waikato, thanks to the Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship. John plans on studying a Bachelor of Graphic Design and is aiming to secure a football scholarship to the United States sometime during 2015.

Other noteworthy scholarship successes include:

  • Four AUT University Significant Student Scholarships valued at $20k each, awarded to Daniel Johnson, Tessa Whale, Jasper Hankins and Cameron Downey who all plan to enter the communications industry

  • A Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship and a Netball Scholarship awarded to Kendal Buchanan and Pare Gilmartin-Kara, respectively, to attend Lincoln University where both students will study agriculture

  • Two University of Waikato Vice Chancellor Scholarships valued at $5k each, awarded to Sam Masterson and Emma Walker

  • Two David Johnston Memorial Scholarship’s, valued at $5k each, awarded to Rachel Brandt and Holly Hardie to study at either the University of Waikato or Wintec.
