First joint female Dux at St Paul’s

Olivia Thompson and Belinda Pedersen gained top marks in Y13 as well as making history by being the first joint female Dux that the School has ever had.

Both Olivia and Belinda are on track to gain Excellence grades, in level 3 NCEA in every achievement standard for every subject they have sat this year.

Olivia topped chemistry, economics and science in level 3 this year plus achieved top of the class.She completed calculus and statistics in 2011 as a Y12 student. In 2011, she was also awarded a Scholarship in Statistics and qualified for the New Zealand Biology Olympiad training camp in both 2011 and 2012.

Belinda, who had already passed Scholarship calculus and Scholarship statistics (the latter with an ‘outstanding’ endorsement) was top of level 3 calculus, statistics, french and physics also in Y12. This year she topped level 3 physics and french, and passed a university maths paper at Waikato University with an A+.

Both girls sat 5 Scholarship papers this year and are also keen musicians, Belinda on the flute and Olivia on the saxophone.

Olivia is off to Otago University in 2013 to commence a medical degree and Belinda’s plan for next year is to start a bio-medical engineering degree at Auckland University. They have both received a scholarship from each of their universities.
