National Bronze Awards for music students

24 June 2015

St Paul’s Collegiate School students Emi Ng and Michael Torrance have been awarded National Bronze Awards for the 2015 NZCT Chamber Music Contest. All thirty-six groups who competed in the Northern, Central and Southern districts competitions on Sunday 21 June were given this honorary award, which represents the best-of-the-best in secondary school music.

Emi and Michael were both selected to compete in the Northern District Regional Competition after their music groups performed and won awards at a Hamilton-based competition earlier in the month. Michael’s string quartet group, Litomysl, won the Hamilton Chamber Music New Zealand Award for best overall group and Emi’s group, Klaviolsche, was one of four groups to receive a Highly Commended Award.

Michael and Emi’s selection for the regional districts competition, along with 34 other groups, eliminated more than 460 groups from the competition (roughly 2000 musicians). Following the northern districts competitions, 12 groups were selected for the semi-finals.
