Chris Wood nets bizarre goal for Leicester

All Whites striker Chris Wood netted his second goal in four days in bizarre circumstances this morning.

The former Waikato youth star scored for his Championship side Leicester City against Watford when an attempted clearance from Watford goalkeeper Manuel Almunia struck Wood flush in the face and rebounded into the empty net.

That 10th minute goal helped spark Wood’s team to a 3-0 victory that continued their rollicking start to the season in the chase for promotion to the English Premier League.

Leicester are second, one point behind Burnley, with 32 points from just 14 matches.

Wood also netted from a deflected cross in the first half but the goal was ruled out for offside.

The 21-year-old, who will shortly join the All Whites for their home-and-away World Cup qualifying playoff matches against Mexico, scored in the League Cup mid-week in a dramatic 4-3 win over Fulham that pushed them into the quarterfinals.
