Old Collegians versus St Paul’s 1st XI

7 February 2010

St Paul’s won the toss and elected to bat. Josh Lenssen [103] and Scott Joblin [39] put on 78 for the first wicket and Josh and Sam Thomson [14] put on 76 for the third wicket. St Paul’s scored 271 runs in 45 overs for 8 wickets against a strong Old Collegians lineup consisting of a number of Premier A players. Josh Lenssen scored his maiden century for the 1st XI hitting three sixes and eleven fours in a superb knock. He was well supported by Scott Joblin 39, Scott Finlayson 37 (not out) and Angus Harris 34.

The Old Collegians were under pressure from the start losing a wicket in the first over and another in the second over. They never fully recovered and were bundled out for 106 in 27 overs thanks to the superb bowling and fielding of the young St Paul’s 1st XI team. Malcolm Luman followed up his good bowling on Saturday (against Boys High) with another impressive spell of 3 for15 and was admirably supported by Jonty Wood 2 for 21 and Michael Aitken 2 for 4. St Paul’s won the match by 165 runs which looks promising for their up-and-coming fixture against Lindisfarne at Lindsfarne (14, 15 &16 February) next weekend.
