Two awards for two Jonathans

Two Old Collegians won major awards at the annual Wallace Corporation University of Waikato Blues Awards.

Jonathan Mayer (Fitchett 2011 – 2015) received the award for his talents in playing the organ while Jonathan Eyers (School 2008 – 2012) was named Creative and Performing Arts Person of the Year.

The awards, which celebrate excellence in sport and creative and performing arts, were held at the Claudelands Arena in October. The event recognised students who show national and international excellence in their chosen fields.

More about Jonathan Mayer

Jonathan was the deputy head of Fitchett House, a chapel prefect and the student organist when at St Paul’s. He has continued his development as an organist by taking the role of organ scholar at Hamilton Cathedral. He has belonged to and conducted multiple music groups.

More about Jonathan Eyres

Jonathan has been singing for eleven years. He is studying a Bachelor of Music in Performance Voice at the University of Waikato as a Sir Edmund Hillary Scholar.

In 2013, when he was a first year university student, he won the University of Waikato Aria Competition.He is also the organ scholar at St Peter’s Cathedral, Hamilton, and is a singing teacher and organist at Southwell School.
