Debating

Debating has a long history at St Paul’s Collegiate School and there is always an enthusiastic group of debaters from Year 9-13.

Any student can join debating at St Paul’s. Each year there are generally two junior teams and two senior teams made up of four to five students.

Each team competes every fortnight in senior and junior Waikato competitions. The annual inter-school house debating competition is also hotly contested and St Paul’s students enjoy the opportunity to debate on stage in front of the whole school, especially at the senior school level.

Other competitions that our students enjoy are:

  • The Russell McVeagh competition, from which the Waikato representative team is selected;
  • The Tauranga exchange, where each year students look forward to the traditional staff vs students debate.
