Cross country

Cross country is a winter sport option offered to St Paul’s Collegiate School students.

Each week students participate in group training sessions that aim to improve their aerobic fitness and basic speed. Most training takes place after school at St Paul’s and at some of the surrounding parks that provide more challenging terrain.

For more serious athletes, an individual training programme is developed and students can join a local club to race in local club competitions. Other competitions that students compete in throughout the year include:

  • Waikato Bay of Plenty secondary schools' cross country championships
  • New Zealand secondary schools' cross country championships

The only cost is to those students who choose to compete at the national cross country championships. This cost is disbursed to the student and is dependent on the location of the championships. The championships have been as far south as Christchurch and as far north as Auckland.
